Custom Fitting
What is custom fitting?
When you buy a new suit or pair of shoes it is vitally important that they fit you. Clothes and shoes are made in different sizes because one size does not fit all. The same applies to golf clubs.
Just as you would look silly walking down the street in a suit that is 5 sizes too small and a pair of shoes that are 5 sizes too big you can look silly trying to swing a golf club that doesn’t fit you properly.
There are three componants to every golf club - head, shaft and grip - and each on of these needs to be fitted properly to the user to offer the best chance of them making a good golf swing and in turn hitting good golf shots.
How does the custom fitting process work?
There are four stages to a successful custom fitting session: 1. Player analysis - this will involve a short question & answer session to determine what you want from the custom fitting followed by an assessment of the ball flight/shot pattern you achieve with your current clubs and swing.
2. Static fit - this involves taking a few simple measurements to give a general idea of what sort of club specification would suit you.
3 Dynamic fit - the most important part of the whole process involving hitting shots with a variety of clubs to determine the best specification for your golf swing.
4. Set make-up - involves selecting the right clubs for your set making sure you have the correct combination of fairway woods, hybrids, irons and wedges for your golf swing and the courses you play on.
Can custom fitting benefit a beginner with an inconsisitent swing?
Custom fitting is highly beneficial to all golfers. Equipment affects motion and for the beginner it is virtually impossible to build a consistent swing with poorly fitting clubs.
For beginners and high handicappers properly fitted equipment is the best ‘training aid’ when learning to play golf. Custom fitted clubs can be made to encourage a better swing motion and eliminate swing faults.
For professionals and low handicap amateurs, custom fitting can be used to find equipment that maximises the results produced by their swings, increase their swings efficiency and customise their ball flight.
